XCache
Installed XCache a few days ago. Traded 64MB RAM for instant PHP speed goodness. Sometimes you can have your cake AND eat it.

Did you try php-pecl-apc?
I was asked to debug a php segfault for a client recently which truned out to be down to xcache. The guys on the php irc channel all recommended php-pecl-apc.
I’d be interested to read a performance/feature comparison between the two.

Sadly, I haven’t got the resources for extended testing. XCache installed easily and brought a noticeable improvement to the worst applications. End of story.
